Position Summary

The Supplemental Speech Language Pathologist is tasked with assessing and rehabilitating patients across all age groups who experience communication and oral-pharyngeal disorders stemming from functional or neurological causes. The primary goal is to enhance the development and preservation of human communication and swallowing capabilities. The incumbent is responsible for documenting findings, tracking progress, and providing guidance to patients and their caregivers. Additionally, the therapist will offer recommendations and support to speech therapists and the management team in program development. The role includes mentoring and overseeing the training of assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians concerning individual patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume accountability for patient care.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients referred by physicians, accurately interpreting findings.
  • Develop comprehensive care plans and establish goals based on evaluation results.
  • Implement tailored speech/language pathology treatment programs.
  • Reassess patient conditions and adjust treatment goals and plans as necessary, ensuring effective communication with patients and families.
  • Maintain effective communication with professional colleagues and manage time efficiently.
  • Document patient interactions accurately in medical records and fulfill other documentation responsibilities promptly.
  • May serve as a Clinical Instructor for Speech interns.
  • Act as a clinical resource for staff, educational institutions, and the broader community.
  • Contribute to departmental program development initiatives.
  • Engage in community service and represent the profession at various functions.
  • Present relevant topics in professional literature at meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to all organizational policies and standards.
  • Promote professional growth by meeting continuing education requirements and supporting departmental goals.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to compassionate care by creating personalized experiences for all community members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
