The District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter institution dedicated to serving a diverse population of over 1600 students in grades 6-12. Position Summary: The Educational Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the supervision and instruction of students with disabilities or special needs within both regular and specialized educational settings. Responsibilities include monitoring and documenting student progress, executing instructional plans, and providing necessary clerical assistance. Educational Assistants at DCI are also assigned afternoon duties and responsibilities related to after-school programs.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $35,700 - $42,000, with starting salaries based on educational background and relevant experience.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is advantageous.
  • Ability to lift and transport materials as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Prior experience in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Mac operating systems is beneficial.
  • Proficient in creating documents and spreadsheets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapt classroom activities and materials under the teacher's guidance to facilitate participation for students with disabilities or special needs.
  • Deliver academic instruction as directed by the teacher to individuals or small groups to achieve learning objectives outlined in IEPs and district standards.
  • Implement behavioral strategies designed by the IEP team for students with behavioral challenges and document their progress.
  • Engage in communication between the school and home as required by a student's IEP.
  • Collaborate with teachers regularly to assess the progress of students with disabilities or special needs and to implement IEP goals.
  • Support colleagues as needed to assist in their work responsibilities.
  • When not engaged as a Dedicated Aide, responsibilities may include: assisting teachers as an additional instructor, teaching courses or substituting as necessary, and performing administrative tasks for the department.
  • Promote and participate in cultural activities that celebrate French, Spanish, and Chinese heritage for both faculty and students.
  • Commit to environmentally sustainable practices.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned, including after-school duties and support.
