Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Management Officer to join our team at Jefferson County, Colorado. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and implementing fire management activities, including fuel mitigation projects, wildland fire incidents, and emergency response planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement fire management plans and strategies to mitigate the risk of wildland fires in Jefferson County.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure effective communication and collaboration on fire management activities.
  • Manage and oversee fuel mitigation projects, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Respond to wildland fire incidents, including coordinating with incident command teams and managing resources.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including conducting training and exercises with county employees and partners.
  • Monitor and report on fire weather, fuels, and other related data to inform fire management decisions.
  • Collaborate with local fire districts and other stakeholders to ensure effective fire management and coordination.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as fire science, emergency management, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in fire management, emergency services, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of fire management principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certifications, such as Type 2 Burn Boss or Type 3 Incident Commander.
  • Experience with incident command systems and emergency response planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Working Conditions

The Fire Management Officer will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel to fire incidents and meetings with stakeholders. The position requires strong physical and mental stamina, with the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Experience: Minimum five years of experience in fire management, emergency services, or a related field.

Certifications: National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certifications, such as Type 2 Burn Boss or Type 3 Incident Commander.
