The Senior Compliance Nurse (Nurse III) operates within the registered nurse's scope of practice and reports directly to the Medical Director or the SSLC Director in their absence.

This role involves coordinating and organizing medical services and activities related to compliance with medical programs.

You will oversee medical processes to ensure accurate data collection, creating a clear clinical picture of the medical services provided to our clients.

Responsibilities include auditing records, analyzing data, developing medical trend reports, and recommending solutions to address identified trends and deficiencies. You will also create monitoring and audit tools for the medical department in collaboration with state-office coordinators.

This position entails planning and overseeing the medical department's preparation and response to both internal and external audits. You will be responsible for creating and reviewing reports, implementing compliance programs, and attending assigned meetings to provide relevant information.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is required, and you may need to work specific shifts or rotating schedules, including extended hours or overtime as per agency policies.

You may also serve on an on-call basis as operational needs arise.

Collaborate with the Medical Director, State Office Coordinator, and Quality Assurance department to organize medical services related to compliance.

Ensure that data is collected accurately to provide a comprehensive clinical picture of the services delivered.

Complete and oversee necessary reports and documentation.

Develop monitoring processes and audit tools for various assessments and documentation reviews to enhance departmental performance.

Update and revise monitoring tools as needed to align with current policies and guidelines.

Disseminate findings to designated experts and track completion of monitoring activities.

Review and audit medical records and interventions for compliance with established protocols to promote best practices in care.

Work with the QA Department and State Office Discipline Lead to ensure consistency in the Internal/External Medical Provider Audit Process.

Collect and input data from monitoring tools into tracking systems for analysis.

Analyze data to create medical trend reports for review by the Medical Director and presentation at Quality Assurance meetings.

Ensure that findings and recommendations are communicated effectively to relevant medical department members.

Collaborate with the medical administration team to develop corrective actions and monitor progress towards improved compliance.

Develop, review, and clarify policies and procedures related to medical program compliance in partnership with the Medical Director.

Recommend and assist in implementing changes to enhance service quality and compliance.

Plan and oversee the medical department's response to regulatory surveys and monitoring visits.

Review documents for accuracy and completeness before submission to auditors.

Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure all documentation meets high standards.

Participate in review processes and provide feedback on identified concerns.

Conduct interrater reliability tasks to demonstrate the facility's self-monitoring capabilities.

As assigned, develop and track quality improvement plans to enhance care quality.

Analyze medication variances and participate in discussions regarding departmental trends.

Attend and provide insights at various meetings to discuss medical department data and necessary corrective actions.

Offer training and technical assistance to staff on effective use of monitoring tools.

Collaborate with the Medical Director to develop educational materials and training for medical providers.

Provide real-time feedback and coaching to improve documentation practices among medical providers.

Engage in outreach activities to inform other departments or external entities about our services.

Assist the Medical Director in providing leadership and oversight within the medical department.

As needed, supervise assigned staff and develop guidelines for the compliance nurse role.

Cross-train staff to ensure continuity of compliance duties and provide direct care nursing services as necessary.

Other duties may include participating in disaster response and recovery efforts as required by agency obligations.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare regulations, and medical treatment protocols.
  • Familiarity with nursing care standards and the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of relevant guidelines.
  • Understanding of state and federal laws related to healthcare facilities.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and the ability to provide care in crisis situations.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and related software.
  • Strong writing skills for developing policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying ideas clearly in both written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to assess patient care needs and coordinate health services effectively.
  • Capacity to analyze data and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Capability to train staff at all levels.
  • Must maintain current CPR certification and possess the physical ability to perform CPR.
