Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual for the role of Senior Tax Compliance Analyst within the Tax Services Administration. This position focuses on the examination of tax responsibilities related to Virginia Fuels Tax.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the precision and promptness of tax revenues received, confirming that all entries in the automated system are accurate and timely.
  • Oversee compliance for electronic filers and manage the resolution of critical error transmissions.
  • Identify and suggest system and procedural improvements in response to reporting and legislative updates.
  • Assist in the creation and modification of communications directed at taxpayers.
  • Provide guidance and training to fellow tax examiners within the work center.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with licensed filers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with standard office operational procedures.
  • Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in business English.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts for tax computation verification.
  • Experience in conducting research and drawing sound conclusions.
  • Proficient in drafting business correspondence for external stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the capability to evaluate information from diverse sources and reconcile accounts accurately.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying Virginia regulations and standards.
  • Competence in using computers for word processing and data entry.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and the public while working independently.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in processing payment transactions, collections, and bank deposits.
  • Background in tax return processing, error resolution, or auditing.
  • Knowledge of the Virginia Fuels Tax Act and its application.
