Social Services Specialist

The Durham County Government is seeking a skilled Social Worker II to join our team. As a Social Worker II, you will provide short-term financial assistance to Durham County families who qualify under County and State program guidelines for rental, utility support, and other County-funded programs. This includes utilizing County Emergency Assistance programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), Crisis Intervention Program (CIP), Rental Assistance, and other community resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of families experiencing financial crises
- Offer necessary support services and connect them with internal and external resources
- Determine program eligibility and issue notices
- Coordinate payments to utility vendors and landlords
- Provide financial counseling and assist with budget planning
- Recommend additional services
Requirements:
- BSW degree from an accredited school of social work; or a bachelor's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
