Position Overview

As a key leader within our organization, the Charge Nurse will oversee all operations during assigned shifts, ensuring optimal patient care and staff management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assume comprehensive responsibility for the operations of the hospital during your shift.
  • Evaluate and adjust staffing patterns as necessary, collaborating with senior nursing leadership.
  • Document staff absences and proactively work to fill shifts, ensuring compliance with safe staffing standards.
  • Conduct rounds across all units, supervising staff activities and providing direct care as needed.
  • Guide unit staff on hospital policies and new procedural updates.
  • Provide constructive feedback to Nurse Managers regarding staff performance evaluations.
  • Exemplify trauma-informed care practices and mentor staff in their application.
  • Encourage de-escalation techniques among staff to minimize the need for restraints.
  • Assist staff in crisis situations and facilitate immediate debriefing sessions.
  • Coordinate telemedicine services for new admissions and necessary restraints.
  • Communicate effectively with administration regarding incidents and staffing challenges.
  • Report critical medical issues and significant events to senior leadership promptly.
  • Implement disaster response protocols as required.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all incidents occurring during your shift.
  • Collaborate with the Intake Coordinator to assess potential new admissions.
  • Maintain an updated supervisor log with relevant patient and staff information.
  • Uphold professionalism in all interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance and punctuality.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse licensure in Massachusetts is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience in psychiatric and mental health nursing is essential.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Proven leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Ability to guide staff in adhering to regulatory standards and delivering high-quality care.
  • Capability to maintain staffing levels within budgetary constraints.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and supervises all hospital personnel during the assigned shift.
