Water Treatment Operator I

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional on-call responsibilities.
Job SummaryThe Water Operator I role involves supporting the Water Superintendent in the upkeep of the water distribution network and treatment facilities.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperator I Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily backwashing of filters (typically twice daily).
- Calibrate pH meters and perform essential tests on pH, chlorine levels, temperature, and CT calculations.
- Manage chemical replacements and maintain daily logs for all chemicals used (including polymers, chlorine, alum, and carbon).
- Respond promptly to alarms and emergency calls.
- Maintain cleanliness of all facilities, pipelines, and equipment.
- Participate in on-call rotation as required.
Operator II Responsibilities:
- Prepare compliance reports and ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Perform maintenance on water towers, storage tanks, and pumping stations.
- Engage in general cleaning and upkeep of all operational facilities.
- Participate in on-call rotation as required.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Basic understanding of water treatment processes and distribution operations.
- Familiarity with pump stations and water storage facilities.
- Proficient in basic computer operations.
- Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and chemical handling.
Licensure:
- Operator I: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Operator II: Valid driver's license with CDL Class B (no restrictions) and a clean driving record.
Certifications:
- Operator I: Class I or II plant operator certification.
- Operator II: Class III or IV plant operator certification.
This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Employees may encounter fumes, odors, dirt, wetness, chemicals, and noise levels that may necessitate hearing protection.
