About the Position

We are seeking an experienced researcher to join our team at the Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) at Georgia Tech. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing activities involving multiple MCF instruments, interacting with Principal Investigators to learn and explain how their research would benefit from MCF analysis, and performing and/or directing advanced imaging and analytical measurements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage activities involving multiple MCF instruments, including training, usage, and demonstrations.
  • Interact with Principal Investigators to learn and explain how their research would benefit from MCF analysis.
  • Perform and/or direct advanced imaging and analytical measurements.
Requirements

This position is an open rank announcement, and the final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty ranks as outlined in the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook.

Research Engineer I:

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or science or related field.

Research Engineer II:

  • A master's degree in science, engineering or related area, and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A master's degree in science, engineering or related area, and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's, master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (e.g., Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, etc.).
  • Broad experience with multiple materials characterization techniques (EM, XRD, SPM, Surface Science, etc.).
  • Experience working as part of a team in a multi-user environment or serving a larger community of users.
  • Equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, and/or repair experience (3+ years).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in at least one field of materials microanalysis (Electron Microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Probe Microscopy, etc.).
  • A publication history showing expertise in using microanalysis instrumentation.
