Research Scientist and Academic Position
Emory University is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist and Academic to join our team at the Emory National Primate Research Center. The successful candidate will have a strong background in neurophysiology, chemogenetics, and computational neuroscience, with expertise in use of single and multi-contact neural probes to conduct neurophysiological recordings of neurons in laboratory animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and conduct research experiments involving nonhuman primates.
- Oversee quality assurance of research conducted by other team members.
- Assist in writing IACUC, IRB, Biosafety, and other approval documents.
- May assist in grant and other funding applications as necessary and appropriate.
- With approval of the responsible faculty director, may have their own research projects and/or have full responsibilities for specific areas of instrumentation or methodology development and user support.
Requirements:
- PhD or MD and five years of professional level experience OR Master's degree and ten years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
- Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment.
- Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Expertise in use of single and multi-contact neural probes to conduct neurophysiological recordings of neurons in laboratory animals.
- Proficiency in one or more scientific computing languages (e.g. MATLAB, Python, or R) as demonstrated by publication of one or more first author scientific publications.
Working Environment:
- Work environment involves working with biohazardous blood and tissues from nonhuman primates.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work is normally performed in a typical laboratory environment.
