Job Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and experienced leader for the role of Director of the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center. This innovative center focuses on providing comprehensive cancer treatment for veterinary patients while emphasizing research in comparative oncology.
Vision: To integrate one-health cancer research and establish a benchmark for exceptional care for pets and their families, ultimately accelerating the discovery of cures for all.
The Animal Cancer Care and Research Center spans 19,000 square feet and is equipped with advanced facilities including reception areas, examination rooms, offices, research laboratories, and specialized treatment rooms. The center features cutting-edge technology such as a stereotactic radiosurgery linear accelerator and advanced imaging equipment to support both clinical and research activities.
Responsibilities: The Director will oversee all fiscal, administrative, and programmatic functions of the center. This role includes ensuring compliance with institutional policies, participating in the college's Executive Board, and collaborating with various boards to promote research initiatives. The Director will also play a significant role in fundraising efforts to enhance the clinical and translational research agenda.
The position entails a blend of administrative duties (approximately 70%) and clinical or research responsibilities (30%) to support the center's mission.
The Director will act as the chief medical officer, leading a team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and support staff, while also mentoring veterinary students and residents involved in oncology and research projects.

Required Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Diplomate of an AVMA recognized specialty college
  • Proven track record in oncologic education, service, and research
  • Prior administrative experience with strong communication and leadership skills
  • Evidence of collaborative interdisciplinary work
  • Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in an academic setting
Successful candidates will possess scholarly achievements that warrant appointment at the rank of full professor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degrees (MD, PhD)
  • Diplomate status in relevant veterinary specialty colleges

Compensation

Faculty salary, commensurate with experience.

Appointment Type

Regular faculty appointment.
