Job Title: Director of Animal Cancer Care Research Center

About the Position:

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech seeks a skilled and focused leader for the position of Director of the new Animal Cancer Care and Research Center. This Center is located in the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute on the Virginia Tech Carilion Health Sciences Campus in Roanoke, Virginia. The facility provides comprehensive cancer care for veterinary patients in the Commonwealth of Virginia and surrounding states with a strong emphasis on comparative oncology research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center as its Director, overseeing fiscal, administrative, fiduciary, and programmatic functions.
  • Ensure proper business practices and internal controls to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Academic Health Center to advance research collaborations and the research mission of the college and the institute.
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center, focusing on unifying one-health cancer research and being a model for unparalleled care of pets and their families.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the center's staff, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, surgical oncologists, residents, interns, and support staff.
  • Develop and manage the center's budget, ensuring effective use of resources and allocation of funds.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, including other research institutions, industry partners, and government agencies.
  • Represent the center and the college in professional and scientific organizations, promoting the center's research and clinical programs.

Requirements:

  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • Diplomate of an AVMA recognized specialty college.
  • Demonstrated achievement and national reputation in oncologic teaching, service, and research/scholarship.
  • Previous administrative experience, exceptional communication skills, and leadership qualities that facilitate and encourage engagement and faculty development.
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degrees (MD, PhD).
  • Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, or American College of Veterinary Radiology.

Salary Information: Salaried Faculty; Commensurate with Experience
