We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Program Management, Applications to join our team at GlaxoSmithKline. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading the Program team that supports the Onyx application engineering vertical with program/project management needs.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successfully delivering software and/or data products, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience. They will also have 5+ years of experience in Agile program/project management and 3+ years of People Management experience.
Key Responsibilities- Recruit, Build, and Lead a Team of Program Managers
Recruit, build, and lead a team of high-quality Program Managers that support key application deliverables. This includes developing and implementing effective recruitment strategies, providing ongoing training and development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is equipped to deliver high-quality results.
Member of the Portfolio Leadership TeamAs a member of the Portfolio Leadership team, you will set objectives and manage performance in conjunction with Engineering and Product. This includes developing and implementing effective performance management strategies, providing ongoing coaching and development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
Standard Bearer for Program Discipline and Agile PracticesAs a standard bearer for program discipline and agile practices, you will be responsible for implementing and upholding best practices across the organization. This includes developing and implementing effective process improvement strategies, providing ongoing training and development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is equipped to deliver high-quality results.
Overall Responsibility for Application ProjectsYou will be responsible for the overall management and delivery of application projects within scope, time, and budget. This includes identifying critical path items, milestones, and interdependencies, and developing and implementing effective project management strategies to ensure successful delivery.
Capacity and Resourcing ManagementYou will be responsible for managing the capacity and resourcing of the Program team, including allocating Program Manager and Engineering resources to support delivery across application projects. This includes developing and implementing effective resource management strategies, providing ongoing training and development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is equipped to deliver high-quality results.
Business Needs Translation and Portfolio Progress OverviewYou will be responsible for translating business needs into achievable delivery plans and providing progress overviews to senior leaders. This includes developing and implementing effective communication strategies, providing ongoing coaching and development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
Agile Sprint Ceremonies and Project Tracking/ReportingYou will be responsible for ensuring successful execution of agile sprint ceremonies, project tracking/reporting, and managing backlogs with Product Managers. This includes developing and implementing effective project management strategies, providing ongoing training and development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is equipped to deliver high-quality results.
Good Project Management Discipline and Risk ManagementYou will be responsible for implementing good project management discipline (tools and process) across all assigned product deliverables, including use of Jira, Confluence, and similar productivity software. This includes developing and implementing effective process improvement strategies, providing ongoing training and development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is equipped to deliver high-quality results.
Tracking Measures and Automated Reports/DashboardsYou will be responsible for defining appropriate tracking measures and building automated comprehensive as well as meaningful reports/dashboards; synthesizing data and insights from across a project or program of work to support teams in making informed tactical and strategic decisions.
Why You?We are looking for professionals with the following required skills to achieve our goals:
- 8+ years of relevant work experience with a proven track record of successfully delivering software and/or data products.
- 5+ years experience in Agile program/project management.
- 3+ years of People Management experience.

- Build automated reports/dashboards to synthesize data and support informed tactical and strategic decisions.
- Experience with designing and operating ways of working, integrating program/project management process with development workflow and product lifecycle in application software development.
- Data Product delivery experience.
