Job Summary

The Student Financial Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the financial well-being of students at Pensacola State College. This position is responsible for overseeing the College's financial contracts, student accounts, and cash collections. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Services: Assist in overseeing the College's financial contracts, student accounts, and cash collections.
  • Customer Service: Provide quality customer service to students, faculty, staff, administration, and third-party entities.
  • Financial Analysis: Determine student individual needs, provide information to students, parents, and prospective students as appropriate.
  • Communication: Interact daily with students face-to-face, via electronic communication, and summarize conversations to student files for future reference.
  • Financial Transactions: Initiate phone calls to collect required documentation and payments, empower students to utilize online services, portals, and webpages.
  • Account Management: Respond to student account-related questions regarding statements, payment options, payment deadlines, tuition rates, and 1098T tax forms.
  • Confidentiality: Handle confidential material and communications and adhere to FERPA.
  • Financial Planning: Refer students seeking a monthly tuition payment plan to the College's third-party provider, update installment amounts after schedule adjustments or financial aid awards are posted.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare itemized invoices for use of college services, facilities, workforce development, apprenticeship programs, and dual enrollment education.
  • Administrative Tasks: Sort mail, perform data entry, filing, scanning, and accurate record keeping.
  • Financial Reconciliation: Reconcile accounts and prepare Ad Hoc Payments to return funds to third-party sponsors as directed.
  • Financial Monitoring:
  • Monitor receivables for non-payment, delayed payments, and other irregularities as directed.
  • Financial Compliance: Research, prepare, process, and distribute College or department-required paperwork, including but not limited to student account adjustments, student statements of account, etc.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate degree and two years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
  • Skills: Advanced computer skills to include multitasking in an electronic environment, ability to work effectively in a diverse community, and ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time.
  • Communication: Ability to demonstrate professional and discretionary communication skills via electronic, verbal, written, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Customer Service: Must provide excellent customer service through appropriate written and verbal communication.
