Job Overview

The primary role of the Maintenance Manager is to oversee and manage all aspects of mechanical, electrical, civil, contract, and instrumentation & control maintenance. This ensures that the power generation facilities owned and operated by Oglethorpe Power Corporation are maintained effectively to deliver reliable and efficient electric power generation while adhering to corporate safety standards and all relevant governmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily maintenance operations to guarantee safe, efficient, and reliable plant functionality in line with warranty obligations and corporate policies.
  • Develop and manage capital and operational budgets for the maintenance department, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.
  • Lead the creation and execution of technical, mechanical, electrical, civil, and instrumentation programs aimed at enhancing equipment durability.
  • Review and refine maintenance procedures, ensuring maximum safety for personnel and equipment, operational efficiency, and optimal manpower utilization.
  • Establish and assess the cost-effectiveness of all maintenance initiatives.
  • Diagnose and resolve maintenance challenges to maintain operational continuity and efficiency.
  • Oversee significant overhauls and outages, managing contractor performance effectively.
  • Facilitate on-the-job training programs to enhance the proficiency of maintenance staff, ensuring ongoing evaluation of training effectiveness.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary parts, materials, tools, and test equipment for scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain current knowledge of job-related qualifications, system operations, and compliance with OPC policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Experience:

  • Required: At least twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in power plant maintenance, including four (4) years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Preferred: Experience at the journeyman level or equivalent in plant maintenance.

Specialized Skills:

  • Strong teamwork capabilities.
  • Effective personnel management and motivational skills.
  • Ability to interpret and develop instructions from technical documentation and communicate effectively in English.
  • Independent decision-making skills in high-pressure situations while keeping management informed.
  • Financial management skills for overseeing budgets and resources.
  • Capability to guide others in testing, troubleshooting, and equipment management.
  • Technical leadership in plant equipment modifications and repairs.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers for various applications.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and inspect the work of maintenance personnel.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver's license meeting insurance eligibility requirements.

Travel Requirements: 15% travel may be necessary.

Work Hours: This position requires availability for on-call duties to address emergencies or operational issues.
