Patient Care Technician

As a Patient Care Tech at ThedaCare, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, you will perform patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of patients. Your primary focus will be on providing compassionate care, listening to patients' concerns, and guiding them through their healthcare journey. You will also be responsible for collecting clinical data, reporting to the care team, and assisting with basic patient needs. Key Responsibilities:
• Perform delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served.
• Check patients' vital signs, height, and weight, as needed, based on patient type.
• Provide compassionate care and listen to patients' concerns and guide them by answering any questions or concerns.
• Identify and escalate changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis.
• Collect clinical data and information on patients and report to the care team.
• Reposition, transfer, ambulate, and transport patients as needed.
• Assist patients with basic needs, such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing.
• Obtain and report patient intake and output.
• Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection as needed.
Requirements:
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be 18 years of age (except for Peabody Manor, The Heritage, or Juliette Manor).
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Work Environment:
As a Patient Care Tech at ThedaCare, you will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment with frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments. You will also be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Occasional high noise levels and standing/walking for extended periods are also expected. You will be required to transport, transfer, and position patients and equipment from one location to another, using proper body mechanics and procedures to minimize the risk of injury. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents is also possible. Occasional contact with aggressive and/or combative patients may occur.
