Patient Care Specialist

As a Patient Care Technician at ThedaCare, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, you will perform patient-centered activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of patients. Your collaborative practice with the care team will ensure patient outcomes that meet the high standards of care provided by ThedaCare.
Key Responsibilities- Perform delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served.
- Check patients' vital signs, height, and weight, as needed, based on patient type.
- Provide compassionate care and listen to patients' concerns, guiding them by answering any questions or concerns.
- Identify and escalate changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis.
- Collect clinical data and information on patients and report to the care team.
- Reposition, transfer, ambulate, and transport patients.
- Assist patients with basic needs, such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing.
- Obtain and report patient intake and output.
- Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed.
- Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection.
- Provide care that is age appropriate, culturally specific, and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety.
- Demonstrate professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous healthcare experience preferred.
- American Heart Association HealthCare Provider Life Support (BLS) certification.
The Patient Care Technician will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, frequently exposed to sharp objects and instruments. The role requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform patient care procedures. The work environment may involve occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
