Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Assistant to support students with disabilities in various school settings. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality educational services and making a positive impact in the lives of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Special Education Teacher in lesson plan preparation, one-on-one and small group instruction, classroom management, student observation and assessment, and communication with parents and staff.
  • Supervise students and provide positive behavior management support consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) or individual family service plan (IFSP).
  • Collect data and report student progress, maintaining accurate records.
  • Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
  • Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops, and seminars.
  • Participate as a member of the education team and may attend parent conferences.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Associate's Degree.
    • 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university.
    • Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment.
    • Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment.
    • 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
  • Experience in a special education classroom setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of programs and services for students with disabilities is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Classroom setting, may move from classroom to classroom to provide services.
  • Provide assistance and attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  • Sit, stand, and stoop to attend to student's needs and provide instruction.
  • Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
  • Travel within Educational Services region for meetings and trainings.
