Responsibilities

PURPOSE:

The role is designed to provide technical, quality, procedural, and personnel leadership during production shifts. The primary objective is to ensure the safety of all employees, maintain product quality, and optimize operational efficiency through effective use of knowledge, training, resources, and communication. The aim is to achieve efficient and cost-effective manufacturing that aligns with the company's established goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise and direct the activities of all hourly plant staff on your shift to ensure effective operations.
  • Ensure the production of high-quality products while minimizing waste on each machine.
  • Oversee the proper utilization of materials and conduct inspections of materials in use.
  • Monitor production processes for Statistical Process Control (SPC) compliance.
  • Prepare for and oversee product changeovers.
  • Compare actual cycle times against established standards.
  • Inspect the systems room in the absence of maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure quality packaging of products by verifying inspections are conducted.
  • Confirm adherence to packing procedures on each production line.
  • Supervise and validate production labeling and reporting.
  • Reduce waste through effective use of packing materials.
  • Verify the proper functioning of downstream equipment.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of carton and unit labels.
  • Manage material handling and movement processes.
  • Ensure the safe operation of material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Minimize held-ware and ensure proper regrind processes are followed.
  • Develop and maintain the workforce through training, coaching, and development initiatives.
  • Provide timely feedback on performance, including utilizing the annual review process.
  • Ensure the shift is adequately staffed according to production schedules and staffing standards.
  • Verify daily time and attendance records, including those for temporary employees.
  • Confirm completion of operator preventive maintenance checks.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and that the work area is clean and free of hazards.
  • Facilitate effective communication, including notifying staff of machine downtimes.
  • Promote safety by adhering to all plant safety regulations and reporting violations.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), product safety standards, and daily cleaning protocols.
  • Follow ISO and Quality Management Systems procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Be accountable for the safety of all employees under your supervision through active participation in safety initiatives.
  • Support and investigate situations leading to line or equipment stoppages due to safety concerns.
  • Complete responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Lead risk assessment activities within your area, prioritizing corrective and preventive actions to mitigate environmental, health, or safety risks.
  • Conduct all required safety meetings, including pre-shift and departmental communications.
  • Complete incident investigations and root cause analyses, implementing corrective actions promptly.
  • Ensure proper training and development for all assigned employees.
  • Set and achieve goals for your unit, ensuring all employees understand and work towards these objectives.
  • Motivate and coach employees through effective communication and regular performance feedback, identifying additional training needs as necessary.
  • Adhere to all GMP procedures and safety protocols.
  • Recognize and respond to safety violations and hazardous conditions.
  • Comply with requirements for wearing protective clothing and equipment.
  • Be prepared to respond effectively in emergency situations, directing others as needed.
  • Follow all departmental procedures and directives.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience, or a college degree with one year of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proven capability to lead and inspire employees.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Functional knowledge of maintenance and repair processes for high-speed molding machines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of equipment related to extrusion and blow molding processes.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
