High School Diploma or equivalent, along with training or experience as an audiology assistant or at least one year of prior medical experience or training in healthcare roles (such as medical assistant, laboratory assistant, LPN). Candidates must demonstrate reliability, professionalism, punctuality, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

The ability to engage with patients and colleagues in a respectful and collaborative manner is essential. Organizational skills are a must.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have manual dexterity, good visual acuity, and hand-eye coordination.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Our commitment to service excellence revolves around patient care and fostering strong patient relationships, which is a shared responsibility among all team members. Collaboration is key, and all staff are expected to contribute effectively as part of a team. The role involves assisting the Audiologist in conducting audiological assessments and fitting hearing aids. Provide direct support to patients for both walk-in and telephone inquiries regarding hearing aid issues. Ensure a safe, well-stocked, clean, and organized work environment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1.

Assist Audiologist in Audiological Assessments:
A. Prepare patients and gather medical history as required by the audiologist.
B. Support the Audiologist with earwax management.
C. Clean and maintain audiological instruments in compliance with OSHA standards.
D. Conduct chart reviews as necessary.
2.

Assist Audiologists in Hearing Aid Fitting:
A. Aid in the ear-impression process, including the preparation of impression materials.
B. Conduct ANSI electro-acoustic evaluations of hearing aids using a hearing aid analyzer.
C. Educate patients on the care and operation of their hearing aids, including control manipulation and cleaning.
D. Help maintain records of hearing aid test results.

Support for Patients with Hearing Aid Issues:
A. Evaluate non-functioning hearing aids, consulting with the audiologist as necessary.
B.

Perform in-office repairs on hearing aids, including wax removal, battery door replacements, shell modifications, and ear-mold tubing changes.

C. Coordinate factory service for hearing aids when needed and inform patients about costs and warranties.
4. Hearing Aid Laboratory Support Functions:
A. Ensure quality control of incoming hearing aid orders.
B. Process paperwork for new and repaired hearing aids.
C.

Manage inventory of batteries, hearing aid components, analyzer supplies, order forms/boxes, and contracts.

D. Maintain a clean and safe hearing aid lab.
E. Assist in reconciling hearing aid statements.
F. Keep the hearing aid database updated.
5.

Departmental Support Functions:
A. Assist patients with scheduling follow-up appointments as needed.
B. Process payments for hearing aids as required.
C. Support the receptionist with patient inquiries over the phone.
6. Perform additional duties as assigned.
