Position Summary:

Reporting to the President of the COPLAC Board of Directors and the Chancellor of UNC Asheville, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership and direction to fulfill the organization's mission, objectives, and strategies. This full-time administrative role, based on the campus of UNC Asheville, involves managing daily operations of a small office, shaping COPLAC's programming, securing external funding, and promoting effective initiatives to advance the public liberal arts sector.

Required Qualifications:

This position necessitates possession of a terminal degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant experience in high-level leadership roles within academia, consortia, and/or foundations/philanthropies is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated evidence of:

  • Strategic thinking, a high degree of autonomy, collaborative spirit, collegiality, and self-motivation;
  • Emotional intelligence and proven experience in building strong, collaborative teams;
  • Ability to engage in entrepreneurial activities, including grant development, fundraising, and creating alternative funding streams;
  • An inspiring approach to connecting COPLAC with national, consortial, and professional organizations, collaborating on program development, and establishing organizational effectiveness that distinguishes COPLAC from other higher education consortia;
  • Understanding of and commitment to the liberal arts and public education;
  • Capacity to re-establish and amplify the value proposition of COPLAC membership;
  • Record of successful problem-solving, strategic planning, and budget management (currently approximately $300K annually).
