Position: Victim Support Specialist

Position Summary

Serene Harbor, Inc., a dedicated organization in Brevard County, FL, is seeking a full-time Victim Support Specialist. This role is essential in delivering advocacy, emotional support, crisis intervention, safety planning, and lethality assessments to individuals affected by domestic violence. The position includes responsibilities for those residing in our emergency shelter and those reaching out through our 24-hour helpline. A comprehensive benefits package is provided, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as paid sick leave and vacation time. This full-time role requires flexibility, with shifts scheduled from 4pm to 12am, 12am to 8am overnight, and on weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate crisis de-escalation, safety planning, and crisis counseling.
  • Provide social service referrals and empowerment advocacy for domestic violence survivors.
  • Report directly to the Shelter Director.
  • Commit to full-time hours, including evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.
  • Participate in Domestic Violence Core Competency Training for Certification.
  • Uphold safety and security protocols within the shelter at all times.
  • Respond to helpline inquiries and ensure documentation aligns with agency standards.
  • Conduct intake services for new residents and exit interviews for departing residents.
  • Engage in ongoing training to fulfill continuing education and certification requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Experience and understanding of domestic violence and social justice issues, including gender violence, immigration, and racial, class, and/or sexual orientation matters.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and community-building abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, dental, life, and additional insurance options.
