About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Crew Lead to join our team at Ayres Associates. As a key member of our land survey group, you will be responsible for leading a team of surveyors and technicians in the field and office, ensuring the successful completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of surveyors and technicians in the field and office, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Perform a variety of field and office survey and mapping tasks, including design surveys, geospatial control, and construction layout.
  • Use Trimble survey field equipment and multiple CADD platforms to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Assist and communicate with crew chiefs, technicians, and project managers in support of their duties, as well as Professional Land Surveyors in preparation of land surveying documents.
  • Adhere to OSHA and required safety practices, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Overtime and occasional out-of-town travel may be required.
Requirements
  • At least four years of relevant work experience in land surveying or a related field.
  • Technically sound in the use of survey equipment and software, including Trimble survey field equipment and multiple CADD platforms.
  • Physical ability to walk over uneven terrain and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A two-year degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology, or a four-year degree in Land Surveying.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and adapt to working in a team setting.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience in the following surveying services:
    • Design surveys, including transportation, utility, municipal, and site development.
    • Geospatial control and LiDAR QA/QC.
    • Construction layout for transportation, utility, building, and municipal projects.
    • Land surveys, including ALTA, and NCDOT.
  • Experience with Trimble survey equipment and software, as well as Civil3D/AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Ability to keep thorough notes and perform necessary survey calculations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and project managers.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Interest in pursuing North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
  • Previous project management skills or interest in developing these skills.
