Position Summary
The Infection Control Specialist is tasked with the planning, organization, development, coordination, and oversight of the infection prevention program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations in collaboration with the administrative and clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Stay informed about current regulations and best practices in infection prevention and control.
- Design, implement, and evaluate the center's infection control initiatives.
- Monitor adherence to CMS, CDC, OSHA, and local guidelines, providing necessary training and education.
- Oversee health programs for team members and residents, including immunization initiatives.
- Conduct regular reviews of infection control policies and facilitate necessary updates.
- Lead the Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, reporting trends and making recommendations.
- Analyze infectious disease reports, ensuring appropriate follow-up and documentation.
- Track infection occurrences and prepare comprehensive reports for leadership.
- Coordinate responses to outbreaks and serve as a liaison with public health authorities.
- Implement process improvements to enhance infection control practices.
- Assist department managers in evaluating job functions for exposure risks.
- Report occupational exposures in accordance with established policies.
- Ensure compliance with decontamination and sterilization protocols.
- Engage staff to identify concerns and improve care delivery processes.
- Develop and maintain educational programs for team members on infection control.
- Participate in regulatory surveys and inspections as required.
- Complete specialized training in infection prevention and control.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing required.
- Unencumbered RN license in the state of practice is mandatory.
- Minimum one year of nursing experience in acute or long-term care settings.
- Preferred experience in a supervisory role with staff development responsibilities.
