Position Overview
The Infection Preventionist plays a crucial role in planning, organizing, and directing the infection control program in alignment with current federal, state, and local regulations. This position collaborates closely with the Administrator and the Central Support clinical team to uphold the highest standards of infection prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Stay informed about current regulations and best practices in infection prevention and control.
- Develop, implement, and oversee the center's infection control program.
- Ensure compliance with CMS, CDC, OSHA, and local regulations, while facilitating training and educational initiatives.
- Manage team member and resident health programs, including immunization and vaccination coordination.
- Regularly review and interpret infection control policies and procedures.
- Lead the Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, reporting on trends and making recommendations for quality improvement.
- Analyze infectious disease reports and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation.
- Track infection occurrences and prepare detailed reports for nursing and administrative leadership.
- Coordinate responses to outbreaks and serve as a liaison with public health authorities.
- Implement process improvements to enhance infection control practices.
- Assist department managers in evaluating job-related functions for exposure risks and monitor adherence to safety protocols.
- Report occupational exposures in accordance with established policies.
- Ensure compliance with decontamination and sterilization guidelines.
- Engage staff to identify concerns and develop improvement strategies for safe care delivery.
- Develop and maintain training programs for team members regarding infection control.
- Participate in inspections and surveys conducted by regulatory agencies.
- Complete specialized education in infection prevention and control, attending relevant continuing education programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing required.
- Unencumbered RN license in the state of practice is essential.
- Minimum one year of nursing experience in acute or long-term care settings.
- Experience in a supervisory or management role, with a focus on staff development and training preferred.
