Airway Transportation Systems Specialist

This position is an entry-level Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (ATSS) role within the US Department of Transportation. The ATSS is responsible for maintaining safe and efficient operating capacity of the National Airspace System (NAS).
Key Responsibilities- Install, evaluate, maintain, modify, and certify facilities, services, and equipment that support the NAS.
- Perform basic, progressively more difficult assignments, receiving academic and on-the-job instruction in fundamentals of the appropriate discipline.
- Acquire and apply basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments.
- Coordinate, operate, repair, install, maintain, troubleshoot, modify, flight check, certify, and document activities on all or some of the discipline-specific systems and services.
- 3 years of full-time general work experience that provided a basic knowledge of the principles of electronics, mathematics, computers, aeronautics, or related areas.
- 1 year of full-time more specialized work experience that provided the opportunity to acquire and apply practical and theoretical knowledge of the principles, functions, and processes associated with electronics and electricity concepts.
- 4-year course of study or at least 24 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in one of these fields: computer science, mathematics, electronics, physical sciences, information management, engineering, telecommunications, or other fields related to this position.
The ATSS works out of offices located at or near airports and on service equipment located on airports, in Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCT), Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC's), and other remote facilities.
They may have work assignments located in open fields, on towers, and on remote mountain tops or offshore.
They work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays; possess a valid driver's license, and possibly travel away from home up to 75% of the time.
