Position Overview

Compensation: $23.75 per hour

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Senior Food Program Eligibility Coordinator operates under the supervision of the Senior Program Manager. This role involves visiting designated locations within the Houston Food Bank network to assess client eligibility and distribute boxes of food from the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) to a designated group of qualified senior clients, adhering to the standards established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, ensuring punctuality to meet operational needs, including participation in meetings and presentations.
  2. Process client applications for the Senior Box Program by verifying identification, assessing program eligibility, re-certifying existing clients, and enrolling new participants based on age and income criteria. Collect client signatures electronically via the Link2Feed database and issue program tickets to eligible clients.
  3. Guide and assist clients in planning and executing food distribution events, including preparing necessary documentation, notifying clients of schedule changes, and coordinating with management on logistics.
  4. Engage in food distribution activities to ensure a positive experience for clients, assisting in the timely and friendly distribution of food products.
  5. Ensure the proper maintenance and security of computer equipment used for client data management and box issuance.
  6. Exhibit the ability to work independently while managing administrative tasks and preparing for future distributions.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • A High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 1 year of experience in community programs. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field may substitute for experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and appropriate insurance.

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Bi-lingual skills in English and/or Vietnamese are preferred.

All responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with Houston Food Bank policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role requires the ability to analyze data, communicate effectively, and remain stationary for extended periods. Employees must frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, using appropriate equipment as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While primarily based in an office setting, employees may encounter varying conditions, including exposure to food-related odors and outdoor weather. Noise levels may vary from quiet to loud.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires travel within the service area, with a significant portion of time spent at various community centers and senior facilities.
