Job Summary:

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician provides nursing care and milieu management under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This role involves administering medical treatment, including medications, as prescribed by a physician. The ideal candidate will have six months of experience working in an acute mental health treatment setting within the past four years and hold a current Psychiatric Technician license by the state of California.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients through effective communication.
  • Administer medication and treatments to patients, perform vitals, and follow escalation pathways as needed.
  • Participate in and facilitate classes/workshops as required.
  • Coordinate end-of-episode care and After Visit summaries under the direction of the care team.
  • Complete assigned documentation, conduct chart reviews, and assemble relevant information for refill requests.
  • Document physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate as a team member in unit activities, report observations, and ask questions when clarification is necessary.
  • Implement patient treatment plans in coordination with the treatment team.
  • Keep treating clinicians and the care team informed of patient behavior and changes in patient condition.
  • Act as a role model in maintaining a hopeful and positive attitude in problem-solving.
  • Ensure supplies and medications necessary for patient care are ordered and available.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' social, medical, and psychiatric presentations.
  • Participate in daily data acquisition processes by collecting and documenting data as clinically indicated.
  • Promote and assist patients in developing self-help skills.
Requirements:
  • Minimum six months of experience working in an acute mental health treatment setting within the past four years.
  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program or qualified for California licensure as a Psychiatric Technician.
  • Current Psychiatric Technician License (California) and Basic Life Support certification.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing mental health services in California.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations.
