CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Oversees scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures. Conducts and supervises diagnostic imaging studies under the guidance of a radiologist.

2. Aids in the education and training of new medical professionals. Collaborates with radiologists and PhD's to develop innovative protocols and Nuclear Medicine imaging techniques tailored to the facility.

3. Engages in research initiatives and contributes to the development of research protocols. Frequently acts in a leadership capacity within the team.

4. Monitors the billing of Nuclear Medicine procedures and supplies daily to ensure accuracy. Demonstrates Nuclear Medicine equipment during 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators. Provides in-service training sessions in the section.

5. Reviews and verifies the order for a Nuclear Medicine scan to understand details such as requested procedures, patient condition, and any special notes or comments. Ensures that orders align with the recommended exam type by the physician. Alerts supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts the physician's office for corrections if necessary.

6. Identifies patient service needs by establishing a personal rapport with potential and current patients and other individuals who can provide insight into service requirements.

7. Confirms the patient's identity by checking their name and date of birth on the electronic medical record and the patient's wristband. Obtains necessary consents and provides education.

8. Executes complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Nuclear Medicine scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety protocols under the direction of a Radiologist, adhering to age-appropriate standards of practice.

9. Integrates diagnostic and laboratory results, patient history, and medical records, adapting the exam as necessary.

10. Complies with Nuclear Medicine Radiopharmaceuticals and Radio Isotopes protocols to uphold high-quality standards. Consistently demonstrates proficiency in performing Nuclear Medicine scans as ordered. Assists in positioning patients in the required anatomical position for optimal display during Nuclear Medicine scans, utilizing immobilization and protective equipment as needed.

11. Maintains proper aseptic technique by following universal precaution guidelines.

12. Assists the radiologist with imaging procedures, initiates IVs, and administers contrast. Aids the radiologist with interventional Nuclear Medicine procedures. Evaluates Nuclear Medicine scans for technical quality, organizes processed images in the order of exposure, and ensures proper labeling.

13. Administers radiopharmaceuticals orally, following approved protocols. Operates power injectors for contrast media administration.

14. Attends to the physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures.

15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Associate's degree in a relevant field.

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in the relevant specialty or field.

Experience:

A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
