Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Director of Development Communications to join our team at Florida Atlantic University. As a key member of the Institutional Advancement Division, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans to support major gift initiatives and enhance the university's brand.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and write high-quality proposals, concept papers, impact stories, and reports to support major gift initiatives.
  • Conduct interviews with faculty, administrators, alumni, donors, students, and other stakeholders to develop strong content and deepen understanding of programs and priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Division of Public Affairs to ensure a consistent brand message for Institutional Advancement, Florida Atlantic, and its colleges and units through written materials.
  • Manage the proposal development process from inception to submission, including research, writing, editing, and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Edit solicitation and stewardship materials to ensure they meet the highest standards for editorial quality.
  • Identify story ideas and write letters, donor stories, articles, and other traditional and digital communication pieces focused on the significance of philanthropy and engagement with Florida Atlantic.
  • Write and update copy for the Institutional Advancement website and other electronic platforms focused on the impact of giving to Florida Atlantic.
  • Ensure quality control of written materials for the Institutional Advancement Division.
  • Communicate directly with Communications staff on project status, needs, and expected deadlines.
  • Work with College development officers to develop communication tools to assist in fundraising for their college/unit.
  • Provide leadership support to student interns.
  • Stay up-to-date on fundraising and communication best practices.
  • Protect confidential information.
Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience.
  • Experience in advancement in higher education or K-12 education.
  • Experience with capital/comprehensive campaign communications.
  • Knowledge of development terminology and fundraising activities.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with knowledge of AP style.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse audience of alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students, and University community partners and friends.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as a member of the Institutional Advancement/Foundation team, and participate enthusiastically in the life of the University.
  • A service-oriented approach.
