Position Summary
The Security Officer plays a crucial role within the Security and Technology team at Access Now. This position involves supporting the organization's mission to protect our personnel from various security threats associated with our work at the intersection of human rights and technology. You will thrive in a dynamic environment, collaborating with a diverse team of over 130 professionals across more than 35 countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Documentation: Assist in developing and maintaining vital documentation, including country assessments, newsletters, risk analysis tools, briefing documents, emergency procedures, and other security-related policies.
- Risk Evaluations: Engage in the creation of thorough risk evaluations for office locations, specific country contexts, or individual staff members.
- Event Security: Provide logistical assistance for staff travel and participation in events, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and addressing travel-related risks.
- Team Support: Collaborate with the Security & Technology team on various projects aimed at enhancing the organization's security framework, including training initiatives, service procurement, network building, and consultations.
- Contribute to the global execution of the annual RightsCon summit series.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- A strong interest in international human rights and familiarity with Access Now's mission.
- Experience in international relations or security studies, whether through academic pursuits or relevant professional experience, demonstrating a passion for security operations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to effectively engage with a globally dispersed team.
- Intuitive and insightful in interactions with team members and senior management.
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities.
- Ability to analyze and present data for actionable insights.
- Meticulous attention to detail, capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and remotely.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, French, or other languages is a plus.
Position Details
Location: This is a full-time role, with a preference for candidates in regions such as Africa, Latin America, and Europe. Candidates must have the legal right to work in their chosen location. Currently, most Access Now team members operate under hybrid work arrangements, combining remote work with occasional office use.
Compensation: Access Now offers competitive salaries and benefits packages tailored to various locations. Examples of salary ranges for this role include:
- €3,939.92-€4,826.33 EUR gross monthly (Belgium)
- $2,610.90-$3,220.65 USD gross monthly (Costa Rica)
- €4,577.00-€5,607.00 EUR gross monthly (Germany)
- $1,850.00-$2,300 USD gross monthly (Kenya)
- $4,557.00-$5,924.00 USD gross monthly (United States)
