Job Summary

The City of Signal Hill is seeking a highly skilled Water Systems Superintendent to oversee the administration and supervision of the City's water distribution programs. This is a critical role that requires a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative management skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage the Water Division, including water construction and maintenance, water production, storage, treatment, and distribution operations.
  • Plan, organize, and direct divisional operations, including the construction, operation, and maintenance of the water production and distribution system.
  • Monitor and adjust the flow of imported water, and perform water audits to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and consult with other departments on matters pertaining to water standards and maintenance.
  • Prepare the annual operating budget for water programs, and submit requests for materials, tools, equipment, and other supplies as needed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of full-time progressively responsible experience in water operations, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid Class C California driver's license, and a Class B California driver's license must be obtained within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Possession of a California Department of Public Health Water Treatment Plant Operator Grade II certificate, and a Grade III certificate must be obtained within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Possession of a California Department of Public Health Water Distribution Systems Operator Grade III certificate, and a Grade IV certificate must be obtained within the first 12 months of employment.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in civil or environmental engineering, water science, or a closely related field.
  • At least three (3) years of progressive management and/or administrative experience in a public water provider or public water agency.
  • AWWA Backflow Tester and Cross-Connection Specialist Certificate.
Working Conditions

The typical office environment with frequent field work activities. Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations, odors, wetness. Occasionally may work in close proximity to structural, electrical, noise, and mechanical hazards, including chemicals and biohazardous materials.
