Job Overview

Position Summary:

This position entails providing engineering and consulting expertise across a diverse range of projects and clientele. Responsibilities may include leading engineering evaluations, performing calculations, offering recommendations, and developing plans and specifications. Additionally, the role involves the preparation and review of reports or calculation packages for the services rendered.

Review and analyze drawings and construction documents to ensure adherence to established plans and specifications. Investigate and resolve design and construction challenges. Apply sound engineering principles while effectively communicating complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct structural engineering tasks.
  • Professional Engineering Sign and Sealing.
  • Assist in business development, including managing client relationships and conducting presentations for potential clients.
  • Coordinate and/or prepare engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, analytical models, reports, and correspondence.
  • Oversee construction administration, including the review of shop drawings, submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Lead project-specific meetings to discuss various topics such as project design, scope, and schedules as necessary.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge and experience in the structural engineering discipline.
  • Understand the business objectives and how the engineering specialization contributes to those goals.
  • Address moderately complex issues by applying existing solutions from a fresh perspective.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Act as a project lead and mentor for less experienced colleagues.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering Licensure with the ability to sign and seal (or readiness to obtain within 6 months).
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and structural design practices.
  • Expertise in building fundamentals and design codes such as IBC, ASCE, AISC, and ACI.
  • Proficiency in structural software programs like SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RISA, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
  • Strong technical abilities coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of enhancing business value through relationship development and market expansion.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills suited for a dynamic work environment.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and open to embracing new challenges.
  • Capability to create Excel spreadsheets and utilize mathematical software (Mathcad) for documenting calculations and design decisions.
  • Ability to interpret Contract Documents, including architectural and structural drawings, project specifications, and estimator takeoffs.
  • Effective communication skills with clients, architects, and engineers as needed.
  • General understanding of construction practices, principles, methods, and techniques.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil or Structural).
  • 5+ years of experience as a practicing Structural Engineer is preferred.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure (or PE ready within 6 months).

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid remote position with a requirement for occasional client site visits.
  • Travel may be necessary up to 50% of the time.
