Job Summary

Smart Synergies is seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for originating and checking complex structural engineering deliverables, including steel calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.

You will work closely with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams to review and coordinate technical documents. Your expertise will be essential in preparing technical reports related to specific design issues and managing assigned project activities.

As a mentor and coach, you will assist subordinate engineers and designers in their professional development. Your ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely will be vital in supporting construction teams and resolving design issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables
  • Review and coordinate technical documents with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction
  • Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues
  • Manage assigned project activities
  • Assist in constructability reviews
  • Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports
  • Mentor and coach subordinate engineers and designers
  • Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables
  • Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and construction teams
Requirements
  • Prior experience working with complex concrete and/or steel designs
  • Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures
  • Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual and ASCE 7
  • Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD
  • Experience with CADD applications, such as Revit or Tekla
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions, and of construction methods for steel structures
  • Understanding of work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally
  • Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and clients
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software
  • Thorough knowledge of the provisions of AISC & ASCE 7
  • Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence
  • Experience in resolving field problems associated with proposed changes from construction and working through non-conformances

Professional Engineering License is preferred.
