Job Overview

This role is pivotal in delivering comprehensive financial oversight, analytical support, and finance collaboration to Program Managers throughout the lifecycle of various programs. The selected candidate will partner with Program Managers to effectively manage the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and ensure that actual expenditures are accurately recorded in the SAP system, while also ensuring timely budgeting and accounting of all relevant costs. Responsibilities will include forecasting sales, inventory, gross margin, and cash flow. This position will involve collaboration with personnel from multiple Smiths locations as well as financial teams at our headquarters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide ongoing analytical financial support to Program Managers, assisting in the preparation of financial reports, facilitating detailed program reviews, and identifying significant risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure proper accounting of program financials.
This will entail:
  • Participating in program initiation meetings, establishing programs in SAP, and generating the WBS structure.
  • Developing project cost accumulation methods in alignment with contractual obligations while understanding the implications of these contracts.
  • Applying knowledge of direct and indirect rate applications across various contract types (e.g., FFP, FPI, CPFF, CPIF, T&M) and advising the program team on potential impacts.
  • Reviewing all cost components charged to assigned programs to ensure accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Analyzing cost and rate applications to confirm proper accounting of projects.
  • Comparing actual program costs to budgeted figures, highlighting variances, and proposing recovery strategies where necessary.
  • Working with Make-To-Order (MTO) and Make-To-Stock (MTS) programs, understanding the accounting treatments within the SAP framework.
  • Collaborating with Program Managers to document contract performance, monthly Estimates to Complete (ETC), and Estimates at Completion (EAC) projections, providing forecast inputs for revenue and gross margin.
  • Preparing invoices in compliance with government contracts and FAR requirements.
  • Monitoring cumulative billings against contract values and identifying programs nearing contract ceilings.
  • Presenting financial outcomes during monthly program management reviews.
  • Assisting the Manager and Senior Program Finance Analyst in preparing and reviewing deliverables, training new team members, and establishing best practices.
  • Complying with all applicable U.S. export and security regulations.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems is essential.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and formulas.
Additional Skills:
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is mandatory.
Experience:
  • 2-4 years of finance or related corporate experience in a manufacturing setting; MBA or MBA candidate preferred.
  • Prior SAP experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in process improvement is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) is a plus.
Background Requirements:

This position necessitates access to Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and successful vetting through the TSA. Candidates must pass a federal background investigation.
