Cantalician Center for Learning is seeking dedicated Special Education Teacher Coaches for the upcoming academic year, offering adaptable per diem schedules.
Whether you choose a 2, 3, or 4-day work week, you will leverage your knowledge and skills to deliver educational services to students with developmental challenges, while also focusing on mentoring and coaching novice teachers and teaching assistants in their professional growth.

Qualifications:
Candidates must hold NYS Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities. Retired educators and others are welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop tailored lesson plans that comply with the Common Core; are age-appropriate; utilize differentiated instruction methods; integrate technology; and align with state educational standards.
  • Act as a role model for new teachers in instructional design, classroom management, professional behavior, collaboration, IEP development, and family communication.
  • Share insights and experiences gained from your teaching career to support and mentor new colleagues and teaching assistants.
  • Exhibit adaptability and a willingness to assist in various classrooms catering to diverse age groups and needs.
  • Guide novice teachers or teaching assistants in creating Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with New York State Education guidelines and Cantalician Center practices.
  • Ensure compliance with IEP mandates and document progress towards established goals.
  • Provide academic recommendations based on assessments, professional judgment, and student needs.
  • Engage students in meaningful, interesting, and differentiated activities aligned with New York State Learning Standards.
  • Support each student’s academic and emotional growth.
  • Foster a safe and nurturing environment for students and staff.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Communicate student progress to families and relevant human service providers.
  • Participate in meetings that may occur outside of regular work hours.
  • Ensure that classroom aides and teaching assistants are effectively contributing to the learning environment.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, promptly reporting any deviations to the Principal or designated authority.
  • Engage staff in classroom activities, fulfilling all assigned responsibilities.
  • Ensure the effective use of students' augmentative communication devices throughout the day.
  • Take responsibility for classroom management, students, and staff at all times.
  • Provide clear guidance to students and staff.
  • Utilize trauma-informed strategies as necessary to help students maintain safety and regain self-control.
  • Advocate for each student’s needs.
  • Organize and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly documentation as required.
  • Implement data collection systems as directed by the IEP Coordinator and/or behavioral staff.
  • Encourage student independence, helping them achieve their highest potential.
  • Ensure all communications with students, staff, and parents are professional and respectful.
  • Model expected student behavior.
  • Establish an effective data tracking system to monitor student progress, assisting novice teachers and teaching assistants as needed.
  • Collaborate with families to involve them in their child's education to the fullest extent possible.
  • Engage in staff training, in-services, and departmental meetings.
  • Refer students and families to community resources and services as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively with other staff members.
  • Submit maintenance requests to ensure the classroom environment is conducive to learning.
  • Consistently uphold high professional standards in interactions with staff, families, and the community.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Education.
