Position Overview

Roanoke College is in search of a passionate and proactive Student Engagement Coordinator to assist the Director of Student Activities in cultivating a dynamic and inclusive campus environment. This role is pivotal in enhancing student life through the organization, execution, and management of a diverse array of student activities and events. The Student Engagement Coordinator will collaborate closely with students, faculty, and staff to enrich the student experience in alignment with Roanoke College's core values and mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, execution, and assessment of a wide variety of student activities and events, encompassing cultural, educational, and recreational initiatives.
  • Manage logistical elements of events, including venue arrangements, catering services, audiovisual requirements, and transportation coordination.
  • Work in partnership with student organizations, clubs, and societies to facilitate their initiatives and ensure they align with the college's mission.
  • Offer guidance and resources to student groups to help them meet their objectives and enhance their operational effectiveness.
  • Act as an advisor to student organizations and committees, providing expertise and resources to promote their success.
  • Oversee all student organizations, including the recognition and registration processes with the Student Government Association and the Student Life Council.
  • Collaborate with Student Activities work groups to assist in the development of student-led events and activities.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of student staff within the Colket Center and Student Activities, including various operational teams.
  • Help create and implement activities, events, and programs that complement the Campus Activities Board.
  • Oversee logistical planning for student activities, including venue bookings, budgeting, marketing, and coordination with other campus departments.
  • Ensure compliance with Roanoke College policies, procedures, and safety regulations for all events.
  • Provide site supervision for campus-wide events, activities, and programs organized by student organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director of Student Activities to develop an Activities Calendar each academic term that highlights student engagement opportunities and events.
  • Establish strong relationships with campus departments, faculty, and community partners to enhance the overall student experience.
  • Develop and implement promotional strategies for student activities across various channels, including social media and campus publications.
  • Work with other campus offices and organizations to create a diverse range of programs and services.
  • Manage budgets and financial documentation related to student activities and events.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities such as scheduling, record-keeping, and correspondence.
  • Supervise event support for all meetings, events, and conferences held in the Colket Center.
  • Maintain computer and audiovisual equipment.
  • Assist in advising and training student work groups that support Student Activities and the Colket Center.
  • Maintain and reconcile student activity credit cards for expenditure tracking.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with student managers and staff.
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director of Student Activities with additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree along with one to three years of relevant professional experience is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years in student activities, event planning, or a related field is essential.
