We are looking for a meticulous and technically proficient Laboratory Robotics Engineer to become a vital part of our team. This role's main focus is to oversee the configuration, upkeep, troubleshooting, and enhancement of hardware stations utilized for biomedical assay development, particularly those employing liquid handling robots like the Opentrons OT-2 automation platform. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of mechanical and software troubleshooting expertise and will be accountable for ensuring the efficient operation of these systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and maintain hardware stations for assay development.
- Assist in creating calibration protocols and conduct regular maintenance and repairs.
- Identify and resolve mechanical and software challenges effectively.
- Work alongside engineering and software teams to implement system improvements that reduce downtime and enhance performance.
- Operate assay development hardware stations with precision and in accordance with established procedures.
- Provide training and support to scientists and research associates in the preparation and execution of automation runs.
- Document and communicate any operational issues or irregularities.
- Assess and suggest opportunities for process optimization and automation advancements.
- Contribute to the creation and execution of new automation protocols.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in controlling robotic systems within a research laboratory setting.
- Strong mechanical and software troubleshooting capabilities.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python for instrument management.
- Knowledge of assay development and laboratory protocols in a BSL-2 environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a medical technology or biotechnology startup environment.
- Demonstrated experience in operating and troubleshooting automation systems from manufacturers like Opentrons, Tecan, and Hamilton.
- Proficient in developing and refining Python scripts for instrument management.
- Experience with Git for software version control.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing technology and CAD design for prototyping and custom part fabrication.
