Bilingual Staff Attorney - Housing and Employment Law Specialist
Job Summary:Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is seeking a highly skilled and bilingual staff attorney to join its Portland Regional Office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in housing and employment law, with a proven track record of advocating for low-income and vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities:- Maintain a varied poverty law caseload, focusing on housing and employment law matters and other substantive areas as assigned by the Regional Director.
- Handle all aspects of legal representation, including client contact, pleading preparation, research, file maintenance, and hearing and trial work.
- Work effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds, demonstrating a commitment to cultural responsiveness and diversity.
- At least 2 years of civil or criminal litigation experience, with a strong background in housing and employment law.
- Current membership in the Oregon State Bar or ability to gain admission through reciprocity.
- Proven interest in and commitment to advocacy for low-income and vulnerable populations.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity, good judgment, initiative, and willingness to work as a team.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, or another language spoken by the client population, preferred but not required.
- Competitive salary range: $66,200 - $105,200 annually, depending on experience.
- Additional $4,300 to $5,700 annually for bilingual ability, depending on proficiency.
- Full benefits package, including individual and family health, vision, and dental insurance coverage.
- 6% employer retirement contribution.
- Generous paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
- Paid moving expenses.
