Job Description

The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a skilled Electrician to join its Facilities and Real Estate Services team. As an Electrician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment, including circuit breakers, distribution panels, and circuit tracing.
  • Install and refurbish electrical systems and project installations, using materials, tools, and equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoot problems and make repairs to lighting, switches, ballasts, Lutron lighting systems, and lighting controls.
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, drawings, sketches, and O&M manuals.
  • Plan, set up, and carry out solutions to supply temporary electrical power to support campus-wide athletic and special events.
  • Lay out, troubleshoot, and repair all types and sizes of electrical conduit.
  • Be trained to program and operate theatrical lighting boards.
  • Understand and utilize safe work practices while performing work on electrical equipment and the use of PPE as defined by OSHA.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the electrical trades.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including extensive walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to accept shift work if required.
  • Valid driver's license, free of any suspension/revocation from the individual state of permanent residence.
  • Experience and willingness to conduct work in a multi-trades job environment, work on multiple types of building equipment and systems, and work with other trades personnel as assigned.
  • Successful completion of an approved accredited electrical apprenticeship (4-5 year program) and have obtained 3-2 years respectively of journey-person level on-the-job experience post-program graduation, or electrical trade-specific vocational school (2-year program) and have obtained 5 years of journey-person level on-the-job experience post-program graduation, or electrical trade-specific military school(s) with 5 years of journey-person level on-the-job experience post-program completion.
  • Trade-specific skills, including knowledge of the principles and methods used in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems and components in the electrical field from 50 volts to 480 volts, knowledge of the principles and methods in using the materials, tools, and equipment used in installation and refurbishment of electrical systems and project installations, ability to troubleshoot problems and make repairs to lighting, switches, ballasts, Lutron lighting systems, and lighting controls, ability to interpret and work from electrical schematics, drawings, sketches, and O&M manuals, ability to plan, set up, and carry out solutions to supply temporary electrical power to support campus-wide athletic and special events, ability to lay out, troubleshoot, and repair all types and sizes of electrical conduit, ability to be trained to program and operate theatrical lighting boards, and practical and theoretical knowledge in understanding and utilizing safe work practices while performing work on electrical equipment and the use of PPE as defined by OSHA.
