Position Summary:

We are in search of a meticulous and safety-focused Hazardous Waste Technician to join our workforce on a part-time basis at our Cuyahoga Falls, OH facility. This role entails the secure collection, packaging, and disposal of hazardous waste produced in our laboratory, ensuring adherence to all relevant environmental regulations. This position is particularly suited for individuals eager to acquire new skills and methodologies in the environmental science domain, offering substantial opportunities for advancement and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect hazardous waste from designated lab areas throughout the facility.
  • Properly package hazardous waste into drums, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation.
  • Coordinate the transport of hazardous waste with our contracted service provider.
  • Dispose of outdated samples and containers in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintain precise records of waste management activities and prepare reports as necessary.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols to minimize risks and ensure a secure working environment.
  • Assist in managing Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Learn and implement various analytical methods and preparation techniques pertinent to environmental science.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; a college degree in Chemistry, Biology, Geology, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Training: Completion of OSHA-40 HRS training is mandatory. Additional EESOH-MIS specific training is advantageous.
  • Experience: Previous experience in hazardous waste management is preferred, with a solid understanding of hazardous material identification and management.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Access) and other relational databases.
    • Strong physical dexterity and the capability to safely move and load heavy drums and containers using material handling equipment.
    • Excellent multitasking, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
    • Ability to work independently while adhering to established procedures.

Work Environment:

  • This position involves working in a laboratory environment with regular handling of hazardous materials. Strict compliance with safety protocols is required.

Physical Demands:

  • The role necessitates physical dexterity and the ability to safely move and handle heavy drums and containers using material handling equipment.

Salary:

  • $27-30 per hour plus overtime, based on experience.
