Northrop Grumman is in search of Radiation Effects & Survivability (RES) engineers to collaborate and spearhead the design, development, and assessment of intricate electronic products for space systems.


Key Responsibilities:
Conduct radiation analysis for satellite electronic systems.

Engage in design reviews with both internal and external stakeholders concerning radiation-related matters.

Evaluate the radiation resilience of electronic components (e.g., exposure to low & prompt dose rates, gamma radiation, energetic electrons & protons, neutrons, and heavy ions bombardment).

Utilize radiation analysis tools such as SPENVIS, CREME96, OMERE, FastRad, Shieldose2 for radiation predictions.

Assess radiation impacts on materials and their degradation.

Collaborate with various disciplines including electrical, mechanical, EMI/EMC/ESD, contamination, procurement, subcontractors, manufacturing, and testing.

Prepare and deliver technical reports for both internal and external stakeholders.

Establish and/or derive radiation requirements and ensure compliance during program meetings and design reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.).

Analyze Single Event Effects and compute rates for Burnouts, Latchups, Ruptures, Upsets, and Transients in electronic circuits.

Recommend and validate circuit design mitigations to minimize or eliminate the risk of Single Event Effects failures.

Perform Radiation Design Margins (RDM) analysis.

Evaluate Displacement Damage Dose effects on optoelectronics.

Assess Deep Charging (Internal Electron Flux) applied to spacecraft component boxes and external harnesses.

Conduct spacecraft radiation modeling and evaluate radiation shielding.

Basic Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical field with 14 years of relevant experience.

Extensive expertise in Radiation Effects & Survivability.

Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams (MS 365).

Must possess US Citizenship and the capability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline is preferred.

Familiarity with the physics related to radiation effects in semiconductor devices.

Experience with radiation models & tools such as AE8/AP8, IRENE, CRÈME96, OMERE, SPENVIS, etc.

Experience in reviewing technical work products of peers.

Experience in contributing to the development and mentoring of junior engineers.

Leadership in process improvement or knowledge transfer (i.e., publication) activities.

Experience with defense and aerospace industry practices, along with programmatic skills supporting BOE, RFP, ROM, CAM, WBS, and Risk assessments.

CAD modeling experience with Creo Parametric.

Current or Active Top Secret Clearance with existing SCI eligibility.

Salary Range:
$142,500 - $213,700


The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman takes into account various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
