Position Purpose:
The Behavior Support Technician delivers behavioral assistance to students with disabilities under the guidance of a BCBA. This role involves aiding in the execution of intervention strategies and data gathering.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

1. Assists in the execution of programs and best practices related to instruction utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for students with autism and other disabilities.

2. Provides behavioral coaching support to staff as necessary in both general education and special education settings.

3. Collaborates with other educational professionals (school psychologists, special education staff, counselors, etc.) to create a support system for students.

4. Works alongside instructional staff to implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) aimed at fostering students' educational, physical, and/or social-emotional growth to access the general education curriculum.

5. Engages directly with students exhibiting complex and challenging behaviors that necessitate specialized support.

6. Models the application of behavior plans and other suitable interventions for students with Autism and/or other disabilities facing behavioral/learning challenges in the educational environment.

7. Develops data collection systems and assists the team in gathering data to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention strategies.

8. Adheres to standards and practices of Applied Behavior Analysis.

9. Maintains consistent communication with special education teachers, BCBAs, and other team members.

10. Regularly participates in team meetings.

11. Collaborates to support the special education department and the district's vision, mission, and goals.

12. Supports Multi-Tier System of Support for Behavior district initiatives.

13. Works with and understands a diverse student population.

14. Demonstrates a commitment to the mission & vision of the Omaha Public Schools.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician is required and must be maintained.
3. Experience working with children and adolescents exhibiting challenging behaviors in a public education context is preferred.
4. Ability to prepare for and collect data effectively.
5. Capacity to remain composed during high-need situations.
6. Certification in the Mandt System and/or willingness to obtain certification.
7. Excellent attendance record.
8. Strong interpersonal skills.
9. Knowledge and openness to learning about diverse cultures.

10. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to interact effectively with school personnel, staff, district office staff, and families.

11. Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

12. Ability to adhere to proper standards of professional attire and appearance.


Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:

This position may require the use of iPads and communication devices, in addition to standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Compliance with guidelines for equipment use is mandatory.


Travel:
Travel between schools and Central Office will be necessary.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Must be able to respond swiftly in emergency situations.
Must possess organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Work is conducted in school building environments.

Interrelations:
Engagement with personnel within the district and other stakeholders is expected.

Will work under the direct supervision of central office administration to complete daily tasks.

Will interact with a diverse population, requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.

Must understand and respond appropriately to stakeholder needs while maintaining a positive demeanor with all.

Expected to engage with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide prompt, responsive service.


Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

To ensure effective school operations, employees are expected to fulfill all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless approved leave has been granted.

Any deviation from assigned hours must receive prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.

All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.


Terms of Employment:
This position is classified as a full-time non-exempt role.

The terms of employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, which may change over time.

If represented by a collective bargaining representative, employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between Omaha Public Schools and that representative.

Verification of all licenses, certificates, and other requirements for the position (e.g., licensed as a Registered Behavioral Technician) and maintaining all necessary credentials throughout employment.

A background check demonstrating an acceptable background for the position.

Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for the position).

Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for the position).

Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine the ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
