Department Overview: The Enterprise Information Technology Division at MITRE offers a range of corporate-wide services, including High Performance Computing (HPC), Enterprise PC and Mobile Solutions, Network Services, and Protected Computing, all aimed at supporting MITRE's research initiatives.

Position Overview: We are in search of a seasoned Linux HPC Systems Administrator to take on the role of Group Lead for MITRE's HPC clusters. This position presents an exciting opportunity for a technically proficient individual to help steer a collaborative team that utilizes automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced computing to provide HPC services to MITRE and its partners. The HPC team is responsible for the procurement, deployment, and maintenance of HPC hardware and user tools, supporting over 800 MITRE employees across various systems, including an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD. The team collaborates on projects to establish and maintain computing environments for AI, data analysis, modeling, simulation, and more.

Work Arrangement: This role requires a minimum of 50% hybrid work.

Basic Qualifications: A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Extensive experience in Linux systems administration (15+ years).
  • Significant experience in HPC systems administration (5+ years).
  • Proven experience in project management and team leadership (5+ years).
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA GPU hardware and its integration into HPC and AI workflows.
  • Capability to mentor and guide team members while fostering a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Experience in technical project oversight and leadership for major IT infrastructure initiatives.
  • Software development experience in at least two of the following languages: C, C++, Perl, Python, Java, shell scripts.
  • Strong communication skills for effectively conveying technical information and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in configuration management and automation tools such as Git, Ansible, or Chef.
  • Hands-on experience with basic computer networking and routing, including troubleshooting fundamental internet protocols (DNS, DHCP, BOOTP, SMTP, S/FTP, HTTP/S, NFS, CIFS/SMB, PKI, TCP, UDP).
  • Experience with configuration management systems like Chef or Ansible.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and system administration experience with Linux Servers.
  • Applicants selected for this position will undergo a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using cluster management tools such as Bright or NVIDIA Base Command Manager.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA DGX systems, including DGX H100, and their integration into HPC and AI workflows.
  • Desired experience in a team lead or similar role within AI or a related field.
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Commitment to ethical practices and data privacy considerations in AI development and deployment.
  • Experience in systems administration on distributed computing systems.
  • Familiarity with HPC-specific resources and technologies, such as GPUs, FPGAs, MPI, Infiniband.
  • Experience with resource managers and schedulers for HPC clusters, such as Slurm.
  • Experience with container technologies like Docker or Singularity.
  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools such as Splunk.
  • Candidates holding current U.S. Government security clearance(s) are preferred.
  • Experience with security compliance standards such as NIST or CMMC for HPC systems.
  • Experience with clustering technologies.

Clearance Requirements: This position requires the candidate to have a minimum of a Secret clearance.
