Position Title: SAM Lead
Job Type: Contract

Role Summary:

The SAM Lead plays a crucial role in overseeing the Software Asset Management (SAM) initiatives within the organization. This position involves guiding a team dedicated to conducting software license assessments for various vendors while addressing the needs of end users, including the implementation and configuration of SAM tools, maturity evaluations, and preparation for enterprise license agreements (ELAs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction for the SAM service.
  • Establish performance metrics and targets for the SAM department.
  • Align SAM resources with the strategic vision of the technology organization.
  • Communicate the mission, goals, and objectives of the SAM process to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Document and maintain essential SAM processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Create impactful presentations to explain complex software licensing models and metrics to diverse stakeholders.
  • Resolve cross-departmental issues and disconnects.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of SAM processes to senior management.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in SAM processes.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders for proactive software management.
  • Develop consistent process documentation across the software landscape.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure comprehensive software license and compliance management.
  • Interpret software license agreements and assess their implications for the organization.
  • Advise senior leadership on enhancing SAM practices.
  • Lead and support key SAM initiatives as defined by the organization.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning abilities.
  • Proficient in IT business process analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated research capabilities.

Technical Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of Information Technology.
  • Extensive licensing knowledge for multiple Tier 1 software vendors.
  • Solid understanding of IT environments and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Configuration Management Databases (CMDBs) and software management tools.
  • Understanding of Active Directory, user management, and server administration.
  • Experience with various platforms such as IBM, Unix, Linux, and Mac is advantageous.

Experience Requirements:

  • 10-15 years of proven experience in SAM and IT Asset Management.
  • Experience with leading IT Asset Management and Discovery Tools.
  • Ability to interpret licensing terms and conditions effectively.
  • Full-time graduate in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • ITAM certification; SAM certification is preferred.
