PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the guidance of supervisory staff or following detailed instructions, blueprints, or sketches, the individual will execute tasks in the trades necessary for the effective upkeep of production machinery and facilities.

Responsibilities encompass the installation, diagnosis, repair, and replacement of electrical and electronic systems, including but not limited to PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and related networks. The role also involves troubleshooting and repairing electronic and electrical controls linked to manufacturing equipment and processes, as well as handling hydraulic systems, servos, rectifiers, motors, electronic controls, HVAC systems, and industrial vehicles. Mechanical repairs and minor fabrication tasks may also be required. Additionally, the technician will perform preventive maintenance and other maintenance tasks as needed. New electrical installations are permissible based on the employee's Minnesota-approved license. Duties may also include performing tasks in lower job classifications within the department. Maintaining cleanliness in work areas, restocking unused items, and returning tools to their designated locations are essential. Staying informed about current policies regarding general safety and chemical safety is mandatory.

All employees are expected to:

  • Adhere to safety protocols, operator preventive maintenance, and housekeeping standards.
  • Participate in all safety meetings and technical training sessions as determined by the employer.
  • Carry out responsibilities within the scope of the Minnesota-approved license.
  • Ensure quality standards of equipment and products by upholding a high level of skill and craftsmanship.
  • Accurately complete process and quality documentation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify problems, gather information, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret various technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and manage several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Operate within NFPA 70E guidelines as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Communicate respectfully with colleagues.
  • Work with minimal supervision.

Maintenance Electricians hired after January 1, 2019 will acquire a Boiler License and must have a minimum of a Minnesota Special Engineer's Boiler License or obtain one within one year on the job.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing, electrical, or electronic maintenance setting is required. A two-year technical degree in electronics, electrical, or electromechanical technology is preferred. A Minnesota-approved electrical license is also preferred. Candidates may need to complete and pass a formal six-month training program.

All Industrial Maintenance Electricians who earn a Journeyman A or a Master A Electrician license through the state of Minnesota will be upgraded from a labor grade 8 to 11.
