Position Overview

The Financial Care Counselor plays a crucial role in our Patient Revenue Management Office (PRMO). This position involves managing patient accounts with precision, adhering to departmental protocols, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately process patient accounts during pre-admission, admission, and registration.
  • Verify insurance requirements and inform patients of their financial responsibilities prior to service.
  • Facilitate payment arrangements and assess eligibility for government funding.
  • Analyze insurance coverage to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Obtain necessary authorizations based on insurance contracts.
  • Document all interactions in the billing system and provide clear explanations of bills to patients.
  • Assist patients in understanding departmental policies and coverage options.
  • Implement collection policies and manage cash payments effectively.
  • Reconcile third-party sponsorships and ensure compliance with reimbursement processes.
  • Conduct thorough research to identify liability sources for patient conditions resulting from accidents.
  • Maintain accurate patient demographic and financial data during admissions.
  • Resolve insurance claim denials promptly and efficiently.
  • Compile departmental statistics for reporting and budgetary purposes.
  • Make referrals for financial counseling as necessary.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and demonstrate the ability to analyze relationships with patients and colleagues. A high school education is required, with some postsecondary education preferred. Candidates should have two years of experience in hospital service access, clinical service access, or billing and collections, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
