Job Title: Environmental Health Capacity Program Manager/Water Epidemiologist

This position is a key role in the Environmental Health Capacity (EHC) Program, which works to strengthen the New Mexico Department of Health's capacity to detect, prevent, and control environmental health hazards.

Job Summary:

The Environmental Health Capacity Program Manager/Water Epidemiologist coordinates program activities, including stakeholder education and outreach, unregulated drinking water quality surveillance, data analysis and dissemination, linking stakeholders and resources, and grant management activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct arsenic tests at water fairs conducted by the New Mexico Environment Department to assess water quality for residents with private wells.
  • Develop interventions, which may include in-person workshops or other events, to control hazards and improve access to safe drinking water.
  • Notify water-related emergencies, provide risk communication to the general public, and handle case investigations in the field.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics.
  • Two years of experience in Public Health, including data analysis and linking methodology.
Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel with occasional overnight stay may be required.
