The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to Veterans who are recovering from mental health conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the service, training, consultation, and other professional activities of VA health care services
- Use personal recovery experiences to model coping techniques and recovery tools to coach Veterans
- Observe behaviors that may indicate difficulty adapting or responding to treatment and report concerns to the treatment team
- Use ongoing individual and group meetings to teach Veterans how to identify and combat negative self-talk and overcome fears
- Handle crisis interventions for Veterans and address other emergent situations
- Inform Veterans about VA and community supports and resources
- Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in holistic approaches in wellness and recovery
- Must be a Veteran who has recovered or is recovering from a mental health condition
- Must have at least 1 year of recovery from a mental health condition
- Must have a full, current, and unrestricted peer specialist certification
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Experience working with Veterans who have mental health conditions
- Experience providing support and guidance to individuals who are recovering from mental health conditions
- Knowledge of current trends and developments in holistic approaches in wellness and recovery
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
