Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the safety of FMPA staff and supporting environmental compliance for the generation fleet. This role will serve as a subject-matter expert in power plant safety best practices, leading a safety program and driving adherence to safe work practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a strategic safety program to reduce incidents and ensure a safe workplace.
  • Conduct facility and field inspections to identify and mitigate hazards, and provide recommendations to plant management.
  • Manage safety reporting and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Engineer to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.
  • Assist with power plant compliance to environmental requirements, including air, water, and waste permitting.
  • Monitor department and employee compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) CDL requirements.
  • Support Human Resources and Legal on investigations of worker's compensation claims.
  • Prepare reports and presentations as directed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial safety, environmental science, or a related field, and 10 years of professional experience in environmental, safety, and training practices.
  • Master's degree preferred, with electric utility experience highly desirable.
  • Standard First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or must be obtained within 1 year from start of employment.
  • Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) preferred.

Working Conditions:

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The role will involve working with various stakeholders, including employees, management, and external regulatory agencies. The Coordinator will be required to work in a variety of settings, including power plants, offices, and outdoors.

Physical Requirements:

The role will require the ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE). The Coordinator will be required to work in a variety of environments, including heat, cold, and high humidity.
